The following is a true copy of a Resolution adopted by the Executive Council at its meeting on February 9 � 12, 2004 in Tampa, Florida, at which a quorum was present and voting.
Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in February 2004 in Tampa, Florida, reaffirms the 2003 General Convention's endorsement of the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that pledge to: 1) eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, 2) achieve universal primary education, 3) promote gender equality and empower women, 4) reduce child mortality, 5) improve maternal health, 6) combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, 7) ensure environmental stability, and 8) develop a global partnership for development, as specified in Resolution D006; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council challenges all members of the church as well as
congregations and dioceses to contribute 0.7% of their annual budgets to fund international
development programs that advance the Millennium Development Goals, as suggested by the
last two General Conventions; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council commends the work of congregations and dioceses that have already devoted 0.7% of their budgets to international development projects that advance the MDGs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council commends the many ways in which congregations, dioceses, units of the Episcopal Church Center, and voluntary agencies work to accomplish
the MDGs in many parts of the world; and be it further
Resolved, That through its International Concerns Committee the Executive Council commits itself to the information-gathering efforts called for by Resolution D006 that will inform the church about the participation of congregations, dioceses and other entities within the Episcopal Church to accomplish the MDGs.
