The Network will represent the Episcopal Church at annual meetings of the Ecumenical Roundtable on Science, Technology and the Church in the United States and Canada.
As part of its responsibility as an official delegation, the Network will:
- take its turn in hosting the Roundtable; and
- pay its share for the rental of Roundtable display tables at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and other meetings, as judged appropriate by the Roundtable.
The Network hosted the Ecumenical Roundtable in Boston in 1998. This Roundtable offered a public open forum on the topic of Human Genetic Enhancement. An ecumenical panel of scientists, theologians, and pastors opened the discussion with some of the scientific and Christian concerns surrounding this direction for biotechnology. The edited Proceedings of this forum are available for $2 from:
The Network also hosted the Ecumenical Roundtable in Richmond VA in 2003. Plenary sessions included presentations on an overview of Intelligent Design (ID) claims, a Biblical approach to creation and ID, dealing with ID in the congregation, and an update on stem cell research.
