The third annual Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS) orientation for missionaries took place on the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (ETSS) campus January 8-21.
Twenty persons from 21 dioceses gathered in Rather House for daily discussion of mission theology, cultural dynamics, interfaith relations and living a missionary identity. The overall theme for the session was "Missionaries and the Era of the Windsor Report."
As the Anglican Communion continues it discussion of the Windsor Report, no missionaries have been asked to leave their ministries by the bishops who host them, the Rev. Jane Butterfield, mission personnel officer of the Episcopal Church, reports.
Boding well for the future of missionary work, about 40 per cent of the trainees are members of the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) and under the age of 30. Included in the group is the first YASC married couple.
The missionaries were commissioned at the end of the orientation and will begin their journeys to Africa, the Americas, and Europe. Thanks to Bob Kinney of ETSS for compiling these resources.
