Carole worked in the Batey “los Blocks,” a community closely tied to one of the sugar cane mills, located about 5 minutes outside of Barahona, Dominican Republic. She lived in an apartment on the grounds of the shelter and serve
as its coordinator. She worked with Father Smith Milien, the vestry of Jesus Peregrino, and a board of sponsors from Barahona to help the shelter grow in numbers and provide food, education, health care, and legal services, for the younger members of the community (ages 4-8) of los Blocks. The shelter provides temporary/permanent housing provided for the many orphans in the community that have lost their parent/s to AIDS, have been abandoned because of lack of financial stability, or have lost their parents in any other way.  Another part of her job was to help find the financial backing from organizations in the Domican Republic and in the United States to be able to provide the over-night stay service. to engage in servant ministry throughout the Anglican Communion.
