"He Has the Whole World in His Hands" is a bronze sculpture by Anne Mimi Sammis, commissioned to be presented to the Archbishop of Canterbury during the Lambeth celebration of the Queen's Jubilee on June 6, 2002. The sculpture was designed to be placed in an open niche in the atrium which connects the Lambeth Palace courtyard garden to the crypt.
The sculpture consists of God's hand holding the earth from which a celebratory circle of people--young and old, men and women--springs forth. The joy of creation, the spiritual connection of earth and humankind to the Creator and the potential for men, women and children to realize God's hope for a peaceful and productive world are part of the sculpture's essence. It was created to express the future potential of the Anglican Communion and the importance of the work of the Archbishop of Canterbury in his global role.
