Coming up Thursday, January 6, 2005...

CAMDEN, Maine - St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Camden was founded on October 1, 1855 and is celebrating its 150th year with a variety of special events and services. In particular, St. Thomas' invites everyone to share in celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany on Thursday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. The music for the Eucharist will be provided by the Penobscot Bay Singers. A reception in the Parish Hall will follow the service.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota - An Interfaith Service for the tsunami victims will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6.
      Representatives from the Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish and Christian faith communities will join for a service of prayer in this time of great tragedy and sadness.
      The Rev. Canon Margaret Otterburn, from St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis will participate in the service.

NEW YORK - Christmas isn't over until you've seen The Three Kings, El Dia De Los Reyes, at the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York. The Hudson Vagabond Puppets and the Children of the Dance Theatre of Harlem School take the lead in this bi-lingual musical based on the story of the three kings. VICKSBURG, Mississippi - The choir of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Vicksburg, will perform the Oratorio de Noel by Camille Saint-Saëns on Jan. 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the church. HOUSTON, Texas - Sufism: The Philosophy of Islam, a presentation with slides by Turkish native Meli Seval, will be held in the Latham Auditorium of Christ Church Cathedral, Houston, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7. The presentation will explore how the cultures of Anatolia nourished the philosophies of Rumi and how his ideas and ideals have flourished in the Turkish culture. WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Folger Shakespeare Library Consort joins forces with the famed Norwegian vocal ensemble Trio Medieval to celebrate the Parisian avant-garde that flourished when High Gothic cathedrals were new and when composers such as Leonin and Perotin were establishing the foundational principles of Western music. LOS ANGELES - Gerre Hancock will give an organ recital at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9, at St. James' Episcopal Church in Los Angeles. Admission is free.
        Gerre Hancock was Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City for more than 30 years. A Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, Hancock was a member of its National Council and is a founder and past president of the Association of Anglican Musicians.
        Hancock is regarded as one of the world's greatest improvisers, and will include an improvised symphony of four movements in this program.

PLYMOUTH, Minnesota - A Tsunami Relief "Open Sing" will be held at 3: p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9, at Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth.
 All are invited to sing Mozart's Requiem with professional orchestra (donating their time) and contribute to tsunami-victim relief at the same time. Bring a score or borrow one at the door. WASHINGTON, D.C. - Washington National Cathedral will honor the State of Hawai'i on Sunday, Jan. 9, and invites everyone from Hawai'i to attend a special service at 11 a.m.
        The Hawai'i Congressional delegation, the Governor and other state elected officials, and religious leaders have been invited to participate in the service. The ritual blowing of a conch shell and oli (chant) will open this special service. The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, senator for Hawai'i State will read Scripture. Noted poet and author Kathleen Norris of Honolulu will preach the sermon, and Bishop Richard Chang of Hawai'i will lead the service. One participant will carry the Hawai'i state flag, which will lead a magnificent procession to open the service, and the flag will remain on the chancel steps in the Cathedral for the following week.
