Nomination form for Presiding Bishop election available

ENS 022805-2
2/28/2005
[Episcopal News Service]  The Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop has held its third meeting February 20-22 at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. The committee members are continuing a process that will result in the nomination to the 2006 General Convention of at least three bishops for election to the office of Presiding Bishop, Primate and Chief Pastor of the Episcopal Church. At that Convention the House of Bishops will elect a new Presiding Bishop, that choice being subject to confirmation by the House of Deputies.

Basing its work on the document distributed and published on April 2004 titled "A Call for Discernment" the committee continued work on the selection and interview process and now issues an invitation for nominations, which will be received from March 1 to April 15, 2005. A short initial set of questions will be forwarded to the prospective nominees to be returned by May 15, 2005.

The nomination form can be found online at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/gc/ccab and will be made available to media, and mailed to all Bishops, Standing Committees and the Chairs of General Convention Deputations. "A Call for Discernment" is appended to the nomination form.

The next meeting of the full committee will be in June 2005 in Chicago.

For further information, contact either of the co-chairs: Bishop Peter James Lee of Virginia, pjlee@thediocese.net, or Diane Pollard, dbpsd4u@aol.com.
