Pope John Paul II dies at 84: A comment by Bishop Mark Sisk of New York

Posted: Saturday, April 02, 2005
It is a significant sign of closeness in the modern Church that sadness in one spiritual family creates grief in the many others who comprise the Christian witness.

Our prayers are offered to the Throne of Grace for His Holiness, Pope John Paul II -- in thanksgiving for his life and apostolic ministry -- and in petition for our sisters and brothers of the Roman Catholic Church. His pontificate is indelibly marked as a stunning testimony to justice, the dignity of human life and the sanctity of all creation.
