National observance of Children's Sabbath set for October 14-16
Daybook

Monday, September 19, 2005
[Episcopal News Service]  For 14 years, the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) has led the way in the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths. This year is no exception. October 14-16, 2005 has been themed "Putting Our Faith into Action to Seek Justice for Children."

The goal of the National Observance of Children's Sabbath is to generate new long-term efforts to meet the needs of children by raising awareness, serving children directly, and advocating on their behalf.

The Episcopal Church's Children's Ministries are one of more than 200 denominations and religious organizations who unite on the third weekend in October to speak out and act faithfully for children and families.

To assist congregations in planning and promoting their celebration, CDF is providing a multi-faith resource manual  (http://www.childrensdefense.org). This year's new expanded edition will help develop worship services focused on the theme. It includes practical activities for adults and children, worship, and educational materials for Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Bahá´í, Unitarian Universalist, and other faith traditions,  and resources for follow-up activities for all faith communities.
