ERD aids people affected by Tropical Storm Gamma in Honduras

11/23/2005
[Episcopal Relief and Development]  Episcopal Relief and Development is providing emergency assistance to communities impacted by Hurricane Gamma in Honduras. The storm has killed at least 32 people, many living in coastal communities. Mudslides along the coast have buried homes after torrential rains deluged communities, affecting an estimated 15,500 people.

“We are on the brink of a very sad, climatic situation on the Honduran North Coast because of the rain,” said the Rt. Rev. Lloyd Allen, Bishop of Honduras. “It certainly has been a hard year filled with storms which caused heavy flooding in Honduras and throughout Central America. Mother Nature is doing what she wants and we have to deal with it.”

Episcopal Relief and Development is providing emergency assistance to help people affected by the storm. Through a partnership with the Diocese of Honduras, ERD is supplying relief such as food, medical assistance, shelter, clothing, and mattresses. The aid will reach approximately 1,840 people in 12 shelters and 10 communities.

To make a contribution to help people immediately after disasters, donate to the Emergency Relief Fund at http://www.er-d.org/, or call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129. Gifts can be mailed to Episcopal Relief and Development, Emergency Relief Fund, PO Box 12043, Newark, NJ 07101.
