The Episcopal Church Center prepares to bid farewell to two women who hold the distinction of having worked for five Presiding Bishops – Arthur Lichtenberger, John E. Hines, John M. Allin, Edmond L. Browning and Frank Griswold. Yvonne McBean and Barbara Price are set to retire this month after 43 and 40 years respectively. Both women have held various positions, and worked in many departments through the years. Price has worked as a key punch operator, programmer, data processing supervisor, and refugee travel loan collection specialist. McBean has held positions in the Home Department, General Convention Special Program, Program Unit, Episcopal Migration Ministries, General Convention Office and Administration.
"I'm going to miss all the friends I have made over the years and even the new ones [friendships,] said McBean. "It's nice to know that people appreciate what you do, and what you stand for."
"Some of my best memories were with my first supervisor Bev [Burke Schrader,]" said Price. "We had lots of fun [and] I actually loved coming to work because everyone shared responsibilities and were helpful to one another."
Both women set spending time with their grandchildren high on the list of things to do post-retirement.
"Retirement holds fun and more time to be with my grandkids and friends," said Price.
"I'll do some traveling and help out with my four grandchildren," said McBean. "They're looking forward to having me home too."
Each woman will be honored at separate celebrations on December 14 and 20.
