The Evangelical Education Society (EES) met October 24-25 in Philadelphia and honored its outgoing executive director, Penny de Bordenave Saffer, for her nearly ten years of service.
During her tenure, ESS increased the number of grants in its “Evangelism for the 21st Century” projects, and initiated special funding for the annual Seminary Student Leadership Conference and the Anglican Studies program at Canterbury, according to an EES news release.
The organization is searching for de Bordenave Saffer’s successor. More information about the position is available here.
The organization, founded in 1862, “strives to continue the tradition of its founders to communicate the faith by knowledge as well as zeal, and to inspire a passion for the Gospel and God’s people,” according to the EES website.
In addition to the three funding programs de Bordenave Saffer helped create or expand, EES also makes scholarship awards to African American candidates for ordination in the Episcopal Church and to persons preparing for ministries in Africa or among Native Americans in the United States.
The EES board met October 24-25 at Christ Church in Philadelphia, where the organization was established. On October 25 the board was joined by Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold for lunch during which the board thanked him his leadership of the Episcopal Church.
