Ugandan priest, the Rev. Enock Kayeye, was consecrated October 22 as the assistant bishop of North Kivu Diocese in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Congo, Dr. Dirokpa Fidele, presided over the ceremony at Kituru, in Butembo town, at the diocesan headquarters.

Kayeye, 61, is the first foreign and the 11th bishop of the Anglican Church of Congo. A large congregation welcomed Kayeye during a service that lasted for more than five hours.

Fidele promised to work toward strengthening the bonds between Ugandan and Congolese Christians.

The retired bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Dr. William Rukirande, asked the Congolese to work with Kayeye to spread evangelism, promote unity and reconciliation.

A delegation of 31 Ugandan Christians attended the ceremony.
