Ellen D. Washington, prominent Washington lay woman, dies from car accident injuries

Ellen D. Washington, a prominent lay woman in the Diocese of Washington, died October 25 as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident.

Washington, a member of St. Philip's Church, Laurel, was an active member of the Union of Black Episcopalians; co-convener of the Southern Africa Task Force which explored the possibility of establishing a partnership with the Church of the Province of Southern Africa; and was serving as co-chair of the Partnership Committee at the time of her death.

She also served in numerous leadership positions in this diocese, among them deputy to Provincial Synod and lay assessor.
