Prior to joining EMM, Gonzalez was a program manager with American Field Service USA where she oversaw international programs that fostered leadership and conflict resolution skills in high school students. She has also served as a resettlement caseworker with Catholic Charities, New York.

Fluent in German and Spanish, Gonzalez's overseas experience includes service as a program officer with the Sudan Human Rights Association in Kampala, Uganda.
