Story One
Bible Story:

When you enter another's home first say, "Peace to this House".

a re-enactment of the
Good Samaritan story

Response to the Bible Story:

Talk about the ways that you offer peace at home, and when you visit other homes. We invite you to share this story about children who also want to offer peace to each other and others. This is a story about children, children who live in the Diocese of Jerusalem and who have the opportunity to go to camp at St. George’s School. At camp, the children are prepared for co-existence, the way to live together in peace even through the great difficulties the community is experiencing.

Scouts in the USA

The children who attend the camp are Christian and Muslim. They experience educational, religious, art and sports activities. All the activities promote peace. This year’s theme was “Peace be upon Jerusalem.” No greater prayer or quest could be shared this Advent as we await the celebration of the birth of our Savior, for our hope too is for Peace on Earth.

Peace education is essential to all people and of course this education includes a special emphasis on the children. While the camp at St. George’s has faced financial difficulties, its mission is to teach and talk and learn about peace. Its mission will need to continue as one of many ways to share the reconciling love of God.

Look at the pictures that bring such hope. Look at the Arab scouts who are performing for a camp event. Another picture illustrates how the children of the camp enact the story of The Good Samaritan. Perhaps you might want to organize a peach march like the one you see from the camp.

Response:

• Talk about the story, What have you heard or seen? What have you learned?
• Sing a song about peace.
• Can you find your way to Jerusalem?
• Share an offering for a particular ministry in Jerusalem or in your diocese. Use your “gift box” for your gift to the Diocese of Jerusalem.
