The Episcopal Women's History Project, organized in 1980 by a group of women in the metropolitan New York area, is now a nationwide organization. Its mission is to encourage interest, research, preservation, and publication about all women in the Episcopal Church and the contributions they have made to the life and work of the church. EWHP has sponsored oral history projects about church women and annually gives grants for research on Episcopal women. It has also developed a quiet day model using the lives of Episcopal women and has facilitated and supported a newsletter and several books about Episcopal women including Episcopal Women: Gender, Spirituality and Commitment in a Mainline Denomination. Annually prize is awarded for the best paper on women's history written by a student at an Episcopal seminary. Conferences on women's history and work in the church are held regularly.
