The 21st Century Survey and its report, "Reaching Toward Wholeness II"  update the first "Reaching Toward Wholeness" study, which was completed in 1987 for General Convention 1988 by the Committee for the Full Participation of Women in the Church, predecessor to the Executive Council's Committee on the Status of Women. The first study was done after a decade of women's ordination. Now more than a quarter of a century has passed.

The 21st Century Survey repeated many of the same questions that national and regional leaders in the Episcopal Church answered in the study done 13 years ago.  The purpose of these studies is to assess changes in attitudes and actions that affect women and men in the Church in order to inform policy and practice.
