Desert Hike at Spur Cross
Diocese of AZ Nature & Spirituality Update

About 60 people attended our program "Evolution in Three Dimensions: Science, Spirit and Story" last Wednesday, which was jointly sponsored with the Arizona Ecumenical Council and the Arizona Foundation for Contemporary Theology. The engaging questions from the audience brought a 4th dimension to the program! Thanks to all who participated. We plan to repeat the program at the ASU campus for an academic audience.

To continue our celebration of the International Year of the Desert, we invite you to join us on a hike in the beautiful Spur Cross Conservation Area just north of Cave Creek this Saturday, May 13th. Please let me know if you plan to join us.
We will meet at 8:15 am in the parking lot all the way up by the trail head for an easy, 2-mile guided hike on flat terrain that will last about 2 hours. It is 8-10 degrees cooler up there than in the valley but bring plenty of water anyway! There is a $3 admission fee. For directions and park info visit:  www.maricopa.gov/parks/spur_cross/

If you would like to learn more about the special role the Desert has played in humanity's spiritual evolution, consider attending this program:

SPIRITUAL SECRETS OF EVOLUTION: Part II
Tuesday, May 9, 2006 5:30-7:00pm
Desert Foothills Library, Cave Creek, AZ This session offers an exciting spiritual safari through the major events of human evolution that led to the mind/body/spirit experience of life we enjoy today. Highlights include a look at the spiritual expressions unique to humans, such as art, music, morality, and social justice, as well as the Desert's role in spiritual evolution.

Our leadership retreat will be on Saturday, May 27 so look for an update on some exciting new NAS developments soon thereafter.

Thank you,
Phyllis Strupp
