We gather to become the worshiping community as adults, youth, and children, to become one family, the people of God, the Church. Children’s feelings of being fully participating members of the body must be nourished by the adults who care for them and minister to them. Being taken to Church is the act which initiates a climate for participation. As parents we need to make a conscious attempt to make going to Church a peaceful transition from the morning routine at home to the awareness of our coming together as a community. As the late Russian Orthodox theologian, Alexander Schmemann, stressed, the offertory procession begins at the threshold of the home.
