Episcopal Campus Chaplain's Conference June 24-27. See details and schedule below.

We live in an ever-changing world that is multicultural, diverse, interfaith, chaotic, and mysterious. Evidence of God's beautiful creation is everywhere, yet the information barrage in our society can overload the senses and cause us to seek engagement with God apart from, rather than in, all this seeming chaos.

"How Shall They Hear" seeks to take a deeper look at the business around us: at the University, in the media and mediums of student engagement and explore the ways in which we might become better listeners to call of and cry for the gospel in the world around us.
New York City, the American center of multiculturalism, will serve not only as the playground for this gathering, but also as its classroom.

In addition "How Shall They Hear" hopes to begin to explore again the role of Chaplain's in the life of the larger Church. Chaplaincies are non canonical entities and as such those ministering in them often are caught in the nether spaces between Diocese and Parish, University and Chapel--neither fish nor fowl--everyone has an idea about the importance of our work but a lack of clear status and statements from the Chaplain's themselves leaves us vulnerable in when it comes to funding and evaluation.  “How Shall they Hear” seeks to begin to solicit conversation and input from attending Chaplain's for a report and statement to be developed for the next General Convention.

New Chaplains' Pre-Conference
The New Chaplains’ pre-conference will be facilitated by the Rev’d Amy McCreath and the Rev’d Dr Steve White.

Amy has been the chaplain at M.I.T. for the past 7 years.  Prior to that she served as Priest-in-Charge of a parish in Milwaukee. Before her days at Seabury-Western, she taught high school for 6 years.

Steve has been the chaplain at Princeton for 8 years.  Before his chaplaincy career Steve was a health care executive specializing in health care economy. Holding a PhD in Health Economics, Steve previously taught at the university level.  He is the author of  "The College Chaplain".  A copy of "The College Chaplain" will be provided to those attending the pre-conference.

Episcopal Chaplains' Conference
Our main speaker for this year’s Episcopal Chaplains' conference is the Rev’d Bill Rich.  Bill will help us address the questions of how to engage young people in the life of the gospel and strategies for being effective evangelists on university campuses.

The Rev. Dr. William W. Rich, the Senior Associate for Adult Christian Formation, has been serving at Trinity Church, Copley Square in Boston since June 2005.  In the years immediately preceding, Bill served as the Interim Rector in three different parishes: St. Paul’s, Doylestown, PA (2004-2005), Christ Church, Bronxville, NY (2003-2004), and St. David’s, Kinnelon, NJ (2002-2003). From 1999-2007, he taught pastoral psychotherapists in training at the Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute in NYC. Since the Spring of 2006, he has been teaching in the Psychiatry and Religion Program at Union Theological Seminary in NYC.

Bill grew up in Baltimore, MD, and received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Williams College.  After studying at Yale Divinity School, he served parishes in the Baltimore area from 1980-1987.  From 1987-1999, he was the Chaplain to Goucher College, where he also taught in the Department of Philosophy and Religion.  Bill studied in the Psychiatry and Religion Program at Union Theological Seminary in NYC, where he earned his STM (1995), M.Phil. (2001), and Ph.D. (2002).
