Eric is a postulant for Holy Orders in the diocese of Connecticut with an estimated time of ordination in mid-2010. He graduated from Yale and Berkeley Divinity Schools in May ’08, and has been working full-time in parishes doing Youth and Outreach ministry since ’07.
Eric looks forward to getting to know folks in discernment and comes with a winding journey of his own. He was raised American Baptist/UCC in Chicago, but only became very involved with Vineyard Fellowship and InterVarsity while at the University of Chicago. By the end of college he thought seriously about becoming Roman Catholic—but felt called to attend Yale Divinity School because of its a strong Episcopal community. By the end of college he felt called to full-time ordained ministry but didn’t yet have a home denomination!
Yale’s ecumenical diversity allowed him the perspective and freedom to define the gospel and his call in community. Eric immediately got involved in ministry, first in a nursing home, then in an inner-city Methodist parish. In his second year (‘04-‘05), Eric joined St Thomas’ New Haven and began official ‘discernment.’ The Diocese of Connecticut made him a postulant while he was in a CPE residency program as a hospital chaplain in 2007.
His current position as Director of Outreach and Youth at Trinity, Southport, combines two of his greatest passions and challenges him to embrace the more radical elements of following Jesus.
He has a passion for international mission: The summer of 2006 he and Jane went to Kenya straight from their honeymoon in France. He is still in contact with Anglican friends in parishes, boarding schools, and medical clinics with whom he is building meaningful partnerships.
He has experience working with young people in and outside of church. He’s been a summer camp counselor and youth group volunteer while in seminary, ad led bible studies, outreach teams, and Alpha Course discussions in college.
An Eagle Scout, he speaks French (his father’s family is in Brittany), and coached middle school soccer (AYSO) in college.
