The Northern California program is for those interested in discerning their vocational goals, ordained or lay, or for those simply seeking to serve others. Interns will work full time in a Jubilee or social service agency in the greater Sacramento metropolitan area, live together in Christian community with opportunities for theological reflection and spiritual formation, and be fully involved in the worship and life of the host parish. Service opportunities are available through many jubilee centers and the type of work varies from rural health advocacy to an inner city multi-cultural after school aide to assisting in marketing and fund raising for a community meals program.

Location:    Sacramento, California

Type of Housing:  Shared apartment in urban area or room in parishioner’s home.

Type of Work:  Full-time community service, with designated discernment time and parish involvement

Transportation: 
 Public transportation available for some work sites, car required for others.

Work Placements:  Interns will work in greater Sacramento Jubilee Centers and community agencies as a rural community health advocate; Hispanic ministries intern; multi-cultural after school program aide; community meals program assistant: case management assistant, volunteer coordinator, or children’s advocate at a women’s and children’s shelter. Parish Context:  Actively involved in worship and life of the parish of host or worksite parish.

Community Life:  Interns will live together in an apartment at the host church or with a parishioner. All interns will participate with other interns for theological reflection and spiritual formation, and volunteer in the host church based on intern’s interests and time and church needs.

Ecumenical:   Host parishes are Episcopal, some worksites are Ecumenical.

Other:  Some work placements may require a state health certificate, child abuse prevention training, a state criminal background check, a driver’s license, or proficiency in a language other than English. Check website for job requirements.
