What a whirlwind my first week in Florida was! I flew into Tampa on a Thursday afternoon, and went straight to DaySpring, the diocesan camp and conference center. There I was able to briefly catch my breath, and went exploring through the Stations of the Cross in their nature preserve. It felt like a completely foreign world, farm from my rural home in Indiana, and even further from the near-tundra of New Hampshire where I go to school. Yet somehow, it felt familiar—I finally realized that this landscape bore a striking resemblance to “Where the Wild Things Are,” the wonderful children’s book by Maurice Sendak. Soon the Rev. Kit Tate, the diocesan director of youth and young adult ministries, returned from the airport, and we were off and running.
