Just what is, and what is not "good" youth ministry, is a more difficult question to answer than it appears to be. Certainly there is no shortage of approaches to youth ministries within the Episcopal Church. Our diversity as a church lends itself to allow for con-siderable flexibility in terms of both theology and programming in the area of ministries with young people.
In the early 1980s, the youth ministries office at the Episcopal Church Center, with the Alban Institute, initiated a study to look closely at the question, "What supports and sustains good youth ministries in a congregation over a period of years?" Through a process of consultation and feedback the study uncovered some generally accepted assumptions at work in youth ministry within the Episcopal Church.
