Year C, Proper 27 (BCP pg. 184 or pg. 236), Job 19:23-27a; Psalm 17 or 17:1-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-3.5; Luke 20:27(28-33)34-38

WAYS TO BEGIN: Gather for coffee and conversation before moving to a circle of chairs.

THE THEME: The Sadducees confront Jesus about life after death.

THE LESSON: Luke 20:27-38. Have someone read the lesson aloud. Make sure that everyone in the class knows that Sadducees are a branch of Judaism that did not believe in the Resurrection.

SOME QUESTIONS TO TALK ABOUT:

1. What do you make of Jesus' words to the Sadducees? What is His point?
2. How do you understand "resurrection"? What is your image of life after death? What questions about death and resurrection do you have?
3. The class may wish to look over the Burial Office in the Prayer Book, page 469 or page 491 and together reach consensus about what the words teach us.

End with the Collect for the day.
