WAYS TO BEGIN: Greet your class. Remember that today is the day to celebrate the Children's Sabbath. If your church or diocese is planning a special event, make your last preparations for it. Perhaps you would like to have a special treat today for your class in honor of the Children's Sabbath.
THE THEME: Because God loves us, it is all right to "pester" God with our concerns.
1. Do you usually get what you want by begging and pestering your parents or teachers?
2. What do you think of this story Jesus told?
3. Why do you think he told it?
4. What might you want to beg God for?
5. Today is Children's Sabbath, a day when we remember children everywhere, especially those in need or trouble. What might we ask of God for the Children of our country who are in need? What might we ask of our city, state or country to help needy children? Make a list of these things.
Using the list you just made of things all children need, write a class letter begging that your local government and/or your state and federal government respond to the needs of children. Be sure to tell them that you have just heard a story from Jesus about how it is all right to beg God for what you need so you are doing that as well as begging government. Address and stamp your letter or letters and if possible, walk to the nearest mail box as a class, and put it in the mail.
End the class by thanking God for the good things you have been given.
