Year C, Proper 21 (BCP pg. 182 or pg. 234), Amos 6:1-7; Psalm 146 or 146:4-9; 1 Timothy 6:11-19; Luke 16:19-31

WAYS TO BEGIN: Greet everyone over coffee and refreshments. Talk about the previous week, them move to a circle.

THE THEME: Final judgement; the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.

THE STORY: Luke 16:19-31. Have someone read the story aloud.

SOME QUESTIONS TO TALK ABOUT:

1. How do you understand the meaning of this parable?
2. What are your views about the realities of Heaven and Hell?
3. In Jean Paul Sartre’s great play, "No Exit", there is a line which ways, "Hell is other people". What would be hell for you?
4. How do you reconcile the reality of some people being born to great riches and comfort through no act of their own while others are born to pain, poverty, and despair, again because of nothing they have done to deserve it?
5. How would you explain a "just God"?
6. What would be justice in your mind?
7. What does this passage call us to do?
