Once more, as at the 72nd General Convention, the triumphant strains of Martin Luther's Reformation hymn "A mighty fortress is our God" followed a dramatic step toward closer relations with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Statement on "Called to Common Mission" Passage
I am delighted that both Houses of our General Convention have now passed "Called to Common Mission," the proposed revision of the Concordat of Agreement, together with the related constitutional and canonical changes. This means that the Episcopal Church is now, as of today, in full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on the basis of a shared ministry in the historic episcopate and for the sake of common mission in proclaiming and serving the Gospel.
House of Bishops Approves Full Communion with Lutherans
In their morning session, July 7, the bishops opened the door to an historic ecumenical pact when by a commanding margin they adopted the full communion agreement between the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
