"Who will help?"

While at the Special Session, Treasure Bear heard stories told by children from northern Uganda. Their lives, he learned, had been filled with pain and suffering following their abduction by the Lord's Resistance Army, a group of Ugandan rebels operating in Uganda and Sudan. They told stories of how they were stolen from their families, forced to march for countless miles, and forced to witness and, in some cases, participate in, innumerable atrocities.

One child, whose name was Betty, stressed that she brought her story of abduction to the Special Session in an effort to tell the world about the tragedies that are currently taking place in Uganda. Following her speech, the crowd fell silent. It was as if no one knew what to do in order to help Betty and the other children like her. Sitting there, Treasure Bear remembered how every Sunday we pray for the welfare of the world in our Prayers of the People. He was saddened as he realized how very much some children suffer and he wondered, along with Betty and the other children from Uganda, who will help them?
