Seminary of the Southwest to offer certificate programs in June
Now in its seventh year, the program offers a solid foundation of skills training and theological education for youth ministers and directors of religious education from throughout the country.
"We invite clergy to take part in a class or two during the week to enhance their education and receive CEUs," said Molly Bennett, director of the program. "Here's an opportunity to select a course or two among an eclectic array taught by seminary faculty."
Core courses include Bible Themes and Contexts, Church History, the Parables of Jesus, Introduction to Prayer and Spirituality, Spiritual Types and Disciplines, and Interpreting the Bible. Each course meets five times during the week for a total of six hours of classroom instruction. The $250 fee includes tuition and meals. Register for an additional course for only $100.
Mini-courses meet three times for a total of four hours. The $100 fee includes tuition and meals on days the class meets. Courses include Website Creation, Faith Development Theory, Cross Cultural Ministry, Youth Culture and Society, and Missiology.
On-campus housing is not available but a list of nearby housing options will be provided.
The Diocese of Texas will award CEUs (professional) for completion of this program. Each core course carries four CEUs while each mini-course awards two CEUs. Persons from other dioceses should inquire as to whether CEUs will be awarded.
