Episcopal Divinity School announces summer courses

[EDS] Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) will offer two terms of one and two week intensive courses this June which address many contemporary issues in the public eye. These courses provide the opportunity for individuals to explore and discuss topics such as racism, feminism, sexual identity, and cultural phenomenon. (Term I runs from June 4-15 and Term II runs from June 18-29.)

"We've expanded our June course offerings to provide greater accessibility for people engaged in full-time ministry or other work who may be pursuing the Doctor of Ministry degree or interested in continuing education opportunities," said the Rev. Dr. Sheryl Kujawa-Holbrook, academic dean.  "These intensive courses offer students, pastors, and other working professionals the opportunity to engage in high quality graduate learning for an easily managed time commitment, while earning the same credit of a semester length course." Short-term housing and meal plans are available to students enrolling in the June terms.

"Starting this June, the first cohort group of our flexible study option will begin their MDiv and MATS degree program," said Kujawa-Holbrook. "Through this option, students have the opportunity to fulfill the requirements of a masters program without having to relocate."

Courses offered during the two June terms include: Foundations for Theological Praxis; Feminist Perspectives on the New Testament; Christology and Cultural Imagination; Developing Spiritual Communities; Liturgical Preaching; Understanding Queer Christian Theologies; Leading Congregational Change: A Systems Perspective; and Church and the Civil Rights Movement: Nonviolence and Social Change. Each of these courses offers students an in-depth look at issues facing the church and the world today and offers students strategies for bringing about change in their communities.
