Greg Garrett to teach Celtic spirituality and writing courses at Ghost Ranch

[Episcopal News Service] Greg Garrett, Baylor University professor, seminarian and author, will offer programs on Spirituality in the Celtic Tradition and Writing for Peace and Justice this summer at the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

Garrett frequently leads classes, workshops and retreats for ordained and lay leaders. He is slated to graduate with a Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (ETSS) in Austin, Texas, in May.

The spirituality course (CDS611) includes personal writing, spiritual direction and Celtic worship at the new Casa del Sol spirituality center at Ghost Ranch. The June 4-10 course allows each student to pursue personal reflection through writing, individual and group spiritual direction, and Celtic spirituality and liturgy. The new spirituality center is located far enough from the main Ghost Ranch campus to allow for silence and solitude, but close enough to enjoy the ranch's facilities -- bodywork, pool and dining hall.

The July 23-29 writing course (WPJ741) focuses on peace and justice issues throughout the week. Writing for Peace and Justice explores the power of words to direct attention and energy to issues from local to international levels. Advocacy writers and speakers such as Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez and Barbara Jordan will be read and discussed. Class members will discover social issues in northern New Mexico and use Robert Linthicum's "Transforming Power" to learn ways of organizing a community beyond the page or pulpit.
