Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country. The new government that took over in 1999 is attempting to restructure the economy, while dealing with rising ethnic and religious tensions within this very diverse country. Income distribution is extremely skewed in Nigeria, with approximately 60% of the population living in poverty.
Malaria is a major public health problem in Nigeria. Transmission occurs throughout much of the country. Prevention and interventions against malaria have been low, leaving Africa’s largest population at risk of epidemic malaria.
