World Mission Interpretation and Networks is offering again resources to help The Episcopal Church everywhere celebrate World Mission Sunday. We believe that this is a special opportunity to prayerfully and actively reflect upon and engage in world mission. We want to support and enhance the Catechism's mandate "to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ through the ministry of all its members as the Church prays, worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace and love."
This year, we are offering materials under the title of "Treasuring the Communion." Money, one of the major forces in our daily lives, was also so during Jesus' time. Jesus himself had a great deal to say about its misuse and abuse. But just because Episcopalians cannot serve or worship wealth as one would serve and worship God does not take away the responsibility of thankfully, joyfully and appropriately offering money in Christ's name as an important resource for Christian living and transformation in day-to-day life. Money, like all of creation, is ultimately from God. Like the master expected of his servants in Matthew 25:14-30, all the forms of abundance one receives from God, including money, are not to be hidden in the ground and some distant day resentfully given back to God. Rather, it should be eagerly increased and shared. As a part of the Anglican Communion, we have a wealth of opportunity to find ways and means of using money (as well as time, people and talent) in a global context to spread Christ's compassionate love and wisdom throughout the world. How are you doing this in your home, your parish and your diocese?
