NEWARK: Baseball field to be named after retired bishop

[Episcopal News Service] Diocesan clergy will help inaugurate the John Palmer Croneberger Baseball Field at the Cross  Road Camp and Retreat Center August 23 when they play softball with the bishop on the field.

Croneberger, the ninth bishop of Newark, retired from his diocesan post on January 27. He was succeeded by Mark Beckwith.

Many of the diocese's clergy traditionally played softball with Croneberger during an annual clergy retreat in October.

The dedication of the Cross Road ball field in Croneberger's name and the game will be followed by a picnic supper.

Cross Road Camp and Retreat Center, located in Port Murray, New Jersey, is run by the Episcopal Diocese of Newark and the New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
