NEVADA: Diocesan convention stays 'open to the Spirit'

[Diocese of Nevada] As it elected the Very Rev. Dan Edwards to become the 10th bishop of Nevada, the 37th annual convention of the diocese met under the theme of "Prayerful Discernment: 'They prayed and said You, Lord, know everyone's heart' (Acts 1:24)."

Convention met at the South Point Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 12-14.

During the opening homily on October 12, Assisting Bishop Jerry Lamb (retired of Northern California) reminded delegates that "It's not about what you want. It's about God's will."

He asked convention to be open to the Holy Spirit, to ask seek and knock -- and know God's will.

The business of convention proceeded on October 13, when delegates heard reports of extensive mission projects and the growth in outreach from Galilee Camp & Conference Center to successful church planting in response to the state's phenomenal population boom.

Convention passed a 2008 budget with some opposition, according to the diocesan website.

While a summary of formal resolutions is not yet available, the courtesy resolutions are available here where other resolutions' texts will be posted.

The Diocese of Nevada has 6,000 members in 34 worshipping congregations, including Bullhead City, Arizona.

-- Hallie Murphy, member of the diocesan communications commission, reported to ENS for this story.
