EL CAMINO REAL: Convention gathers with its soon-to-be bishop

[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real gathered at Sherwood Hall in Salinas, California, October 26-27 for its 27th annual convention at which Bishop-elect Mary Gray-Reeves presided.

A "Resolution of Wonder," passed by the delegates, illustrated the climate of the session. "This Convention joins our bishop in dedicating ourselves to encourage all members of the Diocese to spend the coming year in wonder; we commit ourselves to listen to God's call and expand our thinking, searching for mind-changing, limitless ideas and raising up leaders from all congregations."

The Bishop's Cross was awarded to Susan Altig, administrative assistant at Mission House, for her many years of faithful service; Graciela Velazquez for her dedication, commitment, and service to the diocese; interim Bishop Sylvestre Romero, for being a pastor to the diocese; and Ann Wright, for her dedication and many hours (and miles) of service as president of the Standing Committee.

The diocese also welcomed the congregation of Cristo Rey, Watsonville, as a mission in union with the convention. The mission of St. Stephen's-in-the-Field in San Jose was accepted as a parish in union with the convention. These changes in status were celebrated with joy as a reflection of the health and vitality of the diocese.

Gray-Reeves, who will be ordained and consecrated November 10, preached the convention sermon and delivered the convention address.

Election results, changes to the constitution and canons, resolutions passed, and all other business of convention can be found here.
