CHICAGO: National Workshop on Christian Unity set for April

[Diocese of Chicago] The Ecumenical Millennium Committee of Chicago's faith community is encouraging anyone with an interest in furthering ecumenical and interfaith relations to participate in the upcoming National Workshop on Christian Unity April 14-17 at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare.

This annual gathering of ecumenical officers, theologians, clergy, lay leaders and anyone with an interest in strengthening Christian unity will feature 16 workshops; daily denominational worship services; joint Eucharists; a keynote address by the Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA; and a panel discussion on the nature of the local church and global church.

Workshop topics include the Emerging Church movement; the Anglican/Orthodox agreed statement on The Church and the Triune God; the influence of race on ecumenism; the ecumenical implications of the theology, ritual and practice of baptism; ecumenical advocacy on global moral issues; ecumenical coalition on gun violence, immigration and community organizing; and Muslim and Christian women's dialogue in Chicago.

"Pray without Ceasing" is the theme for this year's gathering which will also feature Bible study leader Dr. James Fleming, director of the Explorations in Antiquity Center in LaGrange, Georgia; and Sr. Dr. Lorelei Fuchs, SA, theological consultant for The Interchurch Center, New York, who will preach at the opening prayer service Monday, April 14.
