
ENGLAND: Jamaica-born Anglican priest Rose Hudson-Wilkin appointed Queen's chaplain
[Jamaica Gleaner] A Jamaica-born female Anglican priest has been appointed chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.The Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, vicar at Holy Trinity, Dalston, and All Saints, Haggerston in the Diocese of London, will join the roster of clergy who minister at the Queen's chapel at St. James Palace in London.
Formerly of the St. Francis Mission in Glendevon, Jamaica, Hudson-Wilkin was trained as an officer in the Church Army before moving to London, the Jamaica Gleaner reports. She was ordained deacon in 1991 and priest in 1994 when the Church of England first admitted women into the priesthood.
She last visited Jamaica in October 2007 when she accompanied Archbishop of York John Sentamu as his chaplain on a visit to the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in observance of the bicentenary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
Hudson-Wilkin is married to Kenneth Wilkin, chaplain at Holloway women's prison in London. They have three children.
