IRELAND: Jerusalem bishop to visit Clogher diocese

[Church of Ireland] Bishop Michael Jackson of Clogher in the Church of Ireland is delighted that Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem Suheil Dawani has agreed to visit his diocese May 8-12 as part of the Macartan 1500+ Project, which celebrates more than 1500 years since the death of Clogher diocese's patron saint, St. Macartan.

The project, coordinated by Clogher diocese, is financed by the European Union Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and managed by the Fermanagh Local Strategy Partnership (FLSP).

"Bishop Suheil will be very welcome in Clogher diocese. The Diocese of Jerusalem has a tremendously rich heritage, and Bishop Suheil has much to tell us about the challenges to daily life in the Middle East," said Jackson.

The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem extends over five countries, including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Dawani became Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem on April 15, 2007. His vision for the future of the diocese is to engage in the ministry of reconciliation and to urge the faithful to join efforts for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. In referring to the importance of Jerusalem, Dawani emphasizes that he sees it as his duty, and that of all Christians, to make Jerusalem a model for peace between the three Abrahamic faiths.

Dawani will commence his visit to Clogher diocese by giving a public lecture in the Ardhowen Theatre on Thursday, May 8 at 8 p.m.
