
Barbara Smith-Moran receives 2007 Genesis Award
[Episcopal News Service] The Rev. Barbara Smith-Moran, a priest in the Diocese of Massachusetts, was awarded the 2007 Genesis Award for her pioneering work in integrating science and Christian faith.Smith-Moran, who has a background in chemistry and astronomy, was one of the first co-chairs of the Executive Council Committee on Science, Technology and Faith, a group she helped create in 2001. Prior to that, she founded the Faith and Science Exchange in the Boston, Massachusetts area and was an early participant in the Ecumenical Roundtable on Science, Technology and the Church. She continues with the Society of Ordained Scientists and the Episcopal Network for Science, Technology and the Church, the membership organization which presents the Genesis Award.
In November 2006, Smith-Moran was also recognized by the Executive Council for her visionary leadership in the area of science and religion.
Smith-Moran is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, exploring restorative justice in parishes following clergy sexual misconduct.
