[Episcopal News Service] Bishop Steven Charleston, president and dean of Episcopal Divinity School (EDS), in Cambridge, Massachusetts will be the featured speaker for the McMichael Lecture Series May 19-20 at St. Paul's, Fayetteville, Arkansas.Previous speakers have included author Phyllis Tickle, and scholar Marcus Borg.
Known as "one of the best preachers in the Episcopal Church" Charleston will present two lectures on peace and reconciliation, "Discovering the Peace Within" and "Making Peace with the World."
The McMichael Lecture series is an expression of thanksgiving and a memorial to Clifton R. "Tippy" McMichael, a lifetime Episcopalian and member of St. Paul's, who bequeathed one-third of her estate -- approximately $1.5 million -- to St. Paul's. The series is funded from the St. Paul's Permanent Endowment Fund, created from her gift. The lecture series are an offering to the community from which St. Paul's draws its life. They are intended to explore a wide range of spiritual issues and feature accomplished speakers from varied disciplines and different religious traditions.
