Diocese of Atlanta names new communication director

[Diocese of Atlanta] Nan Ross has been appointed director of communication for the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta by Bishop J. Neil Alexander. She will serve as the local media contact and edit diocesan publications.

Ross served nearly 10 years with the Episcopal Media Center as director of marketing and communication. Two years ago, when the diocese contracted with the Media Center and the Alliance for Christian Media to provide communication services, she helped introduce and now edits an award-winning online weekly newsletter and Pathways, a quarterly journal. The newsletter, called Connecting, won a Polly Bond Award of Excellence in April from Episcopal Communicators.

Prior to moving to Atlanta in 1997, Ross was director of communication for the Diocese of Arizona for nine years and served on the boards of Episcopal Communicators and Episcopal Life. She also has worked as communicator for two Arizona public school districts and an aerospace firm, as well as a newspaper reporter. From 1998 to 2005 she edited the newsletter of the Fund for Theological Education. She has a degree in journalism from Arizona State University.

An Education for Ministry graduate, Ross is a member of St. Bartholomew's, Atlanta, where she's a eucharistic visitor, usher and member of the Amerson House Contemplative Group, Green Guild and evangelism committee. She also is an associate of Green Bough House of Prayer. Born in Kentucky, she grew up in an Army family and was confirmed in the Episcopal Church at age 18. She has two grown daughters.
