Bishop John Bauerschmidt of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee said "with sadness" the vestry unanimously accepted Swanson's resignation.

"The vestry has begun the search for an interim rector and a search committee also is being formed for a permanent replacement for the dean," he said. "Our task now is to move forward and to devote ourselves to the health and well being of the parish."
