[Episcopal News Service] Florence Gray, former U.S. coordinator for El Hogar Ministries in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, died August 26 at home in Miramar, Florida. She was 81 years old and had been in declining health for more than a decade.

Gray served as secretary to the first bishop of Southeast Florida, the late James L. Duncan. For many years she was the U.S. coordinator, and her late husband, James Gray, was the treasurer, for El Hogar, which provides a home and education for orphaned and abandoned boys in Honduras. She was active in human rights and environmental organizations in Miami and promoted outreach ministries in her home parish, St. Stephen's.

She leaves five children, two of whom are Episcopal priests -- the Rev. Mary Gray-Reeves, bishop-elect of El Camino Real, and the Rev. Michael Gray, rector of St. Stephen's, Culpeper, Virginia. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters and other extended family.

The family asks that memorial donations go to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 2750 McFarlane Road, Coconut Grove, FL, 33133, to be distributed between the parish's outreach ministries and El Hogar.
