From faucet to fund raiser

[Episcopal Life] A full page ad in The New York Times food section in March prompted the great idea this month. The ad read:

March 22nd
Special of the Day
N.Y. Tap Water ... $1
Served chilled, and with good karma

The ad listed 300 restaurants all over the city. At the bottom of the page was this: "Tomorrow, visit one of the many participating New York City Tap Project Restaurants and pay $1 for tap water. All proceeds will be donated to UNICEF to provide clean drinking water to millions of children around the world."

That great fund-raising idea easily could be used in communities across the United States. Organized by Episcopalians in each locale, the dollars raised might fund vastly expanded efforts by Episcopal Relief and Development. ERD's Clean Water Fund provides wells and clean water to thousands of children in Haiti, in six villages in Angola, in Ghana (pictured here) and elsewhere around the world. To learn more, e-mail Abagail Nelson, ERD vice president for programs, or call the Clean Water Fund at 800-334-7626, ext. 5129.
