Captain John Smith, played by Dennis Farmer, directs activity on the beach during the April 26 reenactment of the first landing of English settlers in the New World, near what is now known as Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Three British ships – the Discovery, Godspeed, and Susan Constant – carried 105 men and boys across the Atlantic. Today, one could fly from London to Virginia in less than a day, but in the early seventeenth century, this journey took more than four months.
