Welcome to the National Altar Guild Association Website

The purpose of the National Altar Guild Association (NAGA) is to assist parish, diocesan, and provincial altar guilds through information, resources, and communication including a quarterly newsletter—the Epistle.

By making itself aware of the great diversity among us Episcopalians, by staying abreast of liturgical changes not only in ceremony but also in the furnishings of worship, by helping solve contemporary altar guild problems, by spreading the word about who knows what "in altar guild country," NAGA is the center of the altar guild network.

The altar guilds "out there" assist NAGA with its on-going projects such as making stoles and chasubles for the chaplains of the armed forces and rounding up articles for its regular gift to General Convention — an outstanding Ecclesiastical Art Collection.

It’s Nomination Time Again

Please help your Nominating Committee by swift action. Download the form below and send us your nominations by Labor Day. This might seem rushed, but we believe that those of you who love this organization have already given thought to persons you want in leadership roles... Six positions will be open in 2009 at the National Meeting in Anaheim:

  • President
  • 1st Vice-President/Chairman of the National Meeting
  • 2nd Vice-President/Membership Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Nominating Committee Chair for 2012

There are obvious things to remember as you make recommendations for positions in our organization, not the least of which is the Conflict of Interest statement of the Episcopal Church that says no one can hold office if his/her business interests benefit by that office. And there are other qualifications that our officers need, as well as certain skills to run the offices for which they are elected.

Please remember that those you nominate must be in good standing with the Episcopal Church and with the National Altar Guild. Those nominated must have served as an officer of a parish altar guild. To be elected as president or 1st vice-president, a nominee must have served as president/directress on a diocesan or provincial level or have completed full terms as 2nd vice-president, secretary, or treasurer for NAGA.
