Altar Guild work sometimes requires more than setting the table. It was our privilege recently to assist in replacing a beautiful pair of cruets that had been given to the church by some of its founding members.

The wine cruet was no longer useable and we hoped to find a new one with the same shape and size. After procuring and perusing several catalogs and visiting a nearby supplier of church goods, we decided to visit a local pewter shop. While nothing met our requirements, the clerk suggested we contact the pewterers directly to see if they could design something for us. We took photographs of the beautiful old cruet to show its graceful curves and unique shape, incorporating a ruler to help judge the height of the piece. With photograph in hand, the pewterer went to his workbench and produced the beautiful pair of cruets you see in the second photograph.

Woodbury Pewterers in Woodbury, Ct. is now considering adding this design to their catalog and we are blessed to have the first pair that they produced. If your church has a similar problem, try speaking with local artisans. †
